This technique is called "the rule of thirds". Almost all people and I am included, take a photograph with the subject dead center of the frame. In order to create a better photograph, move the subject off the center of the frame.
Let me show you how it works, look through your view finder and in your mind, draw a tic, tac toe grid that divides the screen into 9 even squares. If the subject is centered on one of the four points where the lines intersect, the photograph should improve and have better composition. I call these the power locations. Believe it or not, it is that easy. And you concluded that learning digital photography would be difficult. - One more issue that would vex me, like putting the subject in the center of the photo, is the angle. This technique requires rotating the camera. Rotate the horizon to turn it from flat to angled.. If you want to make the photograph more interesting, you could rotate the camera slightly and "boom" the photograph has more appeal. What angle you inquire? Well, try it at a lot of varied angles and see which one is better. Remember that every photograph is different.
